Working from home today, was shattered and half hoping the parcel I was looking for would be delivered. No sign of it. Was going to go meet rjk for lunch and then head into the office in the afternoon but we sort of faffed and didn't bother and now I'm feeling bad about it. Still, getting stuff done here, and can listen to more varied music in the process. Though must get rjk to show me how the "jukebox" works. Then again should try (again, as usual) to spend less of the evenings geeking with him and more doing other stuff. Still wonder if just having a TV we'd sit in front of that together and cuddle and actually talk to each other more, but doubt it. There's fuck all decent on anyway, but I guess we could at least watch videos occasionally.

My experience suggests that television does not aid conversation. We tend to sit in front of the TV while [livejournal.com profile] sion_a flicks from channel to channel too fast to be able to see what's actually on, and then end up watching something rubbish just because it's there, until such point as we get bored of it or I get tired of shouting at it and go off and do something more interesting.

Watching videos is sort of different, but we very rarely seem to find time to do that. <sigh>

...my theory as to why people do that is that it's the same as the effect where a car driver always finds bumps and sudden turns and so on less jarring than their passenger, and where other people's computers always seem (at least to me) to have faster interactive response than anything I'm using: basically unexpected things seem faster, and are harder to react to, than expected things. It is annoying, though, especially if you do notice something interesting flying past.

MTV with the sound off, now, that's how TV should be used...
