A friend of mine recently wondered why they weren't earning 30K in programming, when it seemed like most of their friends were. So I'm curious as to what various people on my friends-list do. If you're not currently working but have done in the past feel free to fill this in with your most recent job in mind. If you don't want to reveal who you are, or if you don't have a livejournal, I'd still be interested in answers as comments instead.

NB Salary in UK pounds please, sorry for not making that clear in the question.

It's general internet caution, not giving away stuff that might be used to my disadvantage. As an example, birthday is one thing often used for identity theft and is seen on quite a few LJ profile pages. Income may be used by someone to decide that a person 'must' have possessions worth stealing. Some things may appear later on a search engine when one would rather they didn't.

It's not paranoia if they really are out to get you.

Fair enough. I have to admit to possibly not being paranoid enough about these things.

I will note that I have ticked the relevant tickybox in my profile such that Google doesn't archive my entries. I'd encourage everyone to do the same - since blogs often make Google less useful anyway, as well as it being a privacy issue.
