[livejournal.com profile] ghoti has pointed me at this neat idea: http://www.kevan.org/kaleido.cgi and I thought I might give it a go.

New Door: Today I added [livejournal.com profile] chickenfeet2003 to my livejournal friends list. We seem to have collided via the pubquiz community, but they seem to have a fairly interesting journal, and I'll be interested to see if I stay intrigued. I think that counts, since although I was aware of them before today I hadn't yet read their journal.

Nostalgia: I remember finding The Day of the Triffids terrifying as a kid. I gather it's possible to buy the BBc series on DVD now. I'm awfully tempted, except that it would probably not live up to either my memories or the book. I was reminded of it lately by a quiz question.

Creation: It's 4pm, what have I created since this time yesterday? A feeling of wellbeing in friends by inviting them round for pizza and DVDs. A tidier living room and garage by moving some boxes around. A few more directories of oggs on a harddisk so we can listen to them on our jukebox. A couple of livejournal entries. Later I may get as far as creating dinner.

Environment: This is where I write most of my LJ entries: http://www.greenend.org.uk/rjk/photos/2003-02-25/dcp01014.jpg

Quotation: "The starship shone on the water like a misshapen moon. She didn't hate the girl -- too elegant and delicate and innocent a creature to dislike. No, it was Gregor, the unseeing unfeeling bastard, with her own attention in his face every day, and who responded to it with friendly familiarity, as though she were one of the lads; she hated him" Ken Macleod Cosmonaut Keep

Alliteration: hmmm, harder. I'll come back to this :)

I think if I carry on in future I might try and be more subtle about it and just slot them into ordinary entries unannounced.

It's pretty faithful to the book, I think, and is probably still worth watching despite slightly dated special effects (though there aren't that many of those).

We haven't got it on DVD (or video) but did happen to catch most of the last two episodes (joined together) on the SciFi channel a while back.

...too subtle for me, until you pointed out there was subtlety involved...
