7 minors and not 1 but *2* serious faults. One on the A14: overtaking a lorry, tried to change from 4th to 5th, couldn't find 5th, went to put it back in 4th and ended up in 2nd instead. Should have just not bothered at all really, or been less paniced when I couldn't find the gear. We were only going one junction anyway. Other one was on the A10, turning right into Milton. Saw a gap which was about the same size as one I'd gone through in the lesson before the test, went for it: car turned out to be going rather faster than the previous one had been (tester reckoned it was probably breaking the limit) and it was rather too close.

Minor marks mostly clutch control. Observation perfect :-)

Ah well. Next time. All the best people pass on the 3rd go right?

Update: Bummer, and the next available test date is June 18th. BSM will be looking out for cancellations for me though.

Took me three goes, for both the car and the bike! Makes you a better driver in the long run, I'm told. (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!)

*hugs* bad luck :-/

(how come you couldn't find 5th? Was that the car being rubbish?)

Bad luck (and that's obviously all it was) :-(. I have a thing about fifth gear: I have a knack of finding it, letting the clutch out, and then realising that it is, in fact, third.

Next time...

*hugs* again, and I'll add my voice to the best-people-pass-third-time chorus.

I should get you insured to drive my car, no need to worry about 5th gear then ... or overtaking things for that matter. :)

:-(

Good luck for getting an earlier test (and good luck with it when it happens!).

I passed second time round simply due to having had the test experience before and being more confident about it/knowing what to expect; you might well find the same..

Oh, I didn't know that - when was the first one?

Sounds like you learn from your mistakes. Lots of people need a few goes; I think the only reason I didn't was because I did get rather a lot of lessons before even trying, because I did find some things difficult for some time. Keep practising and you will get there! (-: Observations skills are fantastically useful, so good for you, and I bet you usually do much better anyway when you're less nervous.

BSM said they would for me - and then just booked something ages away. Keep prodding them, if your local lot are anything like the Oxford office, they need lots of pointy sticks. Although prodding is easier to say than do - they rarely answer the phone!

I learnt to drive in a car that didn't have a fifth gear. Always been a bit suspicious of fifth since then.

I failed my first driving test quite catastrophically - almost hit a car when pulling out at a junction - examiner had to use the dual control brake! Passed eventually though :-) Best of luck next time.

I managed a 1st to 4th change on my first test (having missed 2nd). I was having a bad day that day, I don't think I failed for that because I recovered quickly but I screwed up other things. It was also Thursday afternoon and at the time the Bath test centre didn't pass people on Thursday afternoons. It's also occurred to me that it was 22 years ago. Argh!

However, I did pass second time despite stalling the car on a hill start trying to pull out of a junction (1-in-3 hill, not exactly common around here).
