*blink* Jan very surprised to be rung up and *told* she's got a new boyfriend. Supposed new boyfriend likewise. Rumours that this is why Richard has dumped Vicky are *very* exagerated, if not downright ludicrous. I'm not quite sure where they came from though, but they seem to be stressing *everyone* in the process.

In that case can you please explain to me what I _should_ have concluded from what I saw? I was under the impression that I asked Richard to be responsible about our relationship and clear up the ambiguities in the messages he'd been giving me, and that instead he chose to move on to the next opportunity. And had to be forced to actually *tell* me outright that he didn't want to continue the relationship, to boot. I haven't felt so used and offended in a very long time.

I'm sorry, I don't know what's been said by mail, but what I've seen is that Richard and Jan were being cuddly in the pub on Thursday, mostly because *I* was ignoring them both too much, you sent Richard an email which seems to have contained some sort of ultamatum, and he thought about it for a day or so and decided it was time to call the whole thing off. I'm sorry if he did it in a really crap way.

I'm not sure what you saw, so I don't know if your conclusion is less strange than it looks from here.

Much as I'd like to discuss this more with you since I think you've a valuable point of view, I really don't want to start yet another lj flamewar based on supposition and interpretation, which I think would happen if I did. Basically, I think, the best idea is for Richard and me to sort it out, and then for him to explain to the people close to him what happened. Get it from the horse's mouth, as it were.

I am not going out with Richard. I don't know how to state this fact more clearly and unambiguously than this. So I don't know when you think you "saw" Richard "move on to the next opportunity", if by that you mean (as you seem to) that you saw him moving on to a relationship with me; all I can say is that I certainly wasn't there at the time.

As you know Richard and I have been good friends for some years now (and friends who freely admit that they fancy each other). We've talked on several occasions in the past about the possibility of a relationship, but somehow it's never been the right time.

I'm not accusing you of playing any active part in this whatsoever. My problem is purely with Richard. Some day when I'm in less of a foul mood I'll try to explain what I'm talking about more clearly.
