Frightening how easily these LibDems can track you down if they put their minds to it, they even managed to find my phone number at work. Have spoken to Rupert again anyway and he's reassured me that in fact my help as a campaigner, delivering leaflets and canvassing in nearby wards and the like, is actually more valuable than my name on the ballot to them really. If my own friends really think I'm that unsuitable for the job and I react so badly to them saying so then perhaps now isn't the right time for it. Maybe by this time next year I'll be feeling a bit more stable and capable of doing it.

Now if only I could concentrate on anything long enough to get some work done.

:-( FWIW, I think you'd make a good councillor.

Kings Hedges isn't remotely winnable for the Lib Dems is it? Therefore it would be a good place to cut your teeth experiencing the bureaucracy of running a campaign. There will always be pavements to be pounded, unfortunately...

Awww love, who's been saying you're unsuitable? :-( *hugs* I think you'd be great; you're lively, you're confident, you're good at talking and listening, and good at persuading people. I don't know exactly what qualities you need to be a good local councillor but all these seem like a pretty good start (probably a good start for any post really!), and you'd probably pick up the specifics quickly.

If you want to do it, then go ahead and stand. It's got to be down to whether or not you think you'd get something out of it. And yeah, that may sound like a selfish attitude for something that's supposed to be Helping Local Community Blah Blah Blah, but if you don't think you'll get anything out of it then you probably won't put much into it either. (And if that's the case, that's not a "failure", it's just deciding that it's not the right thing for you.)

And realistically, let's face it: the Lib Dems probably wouldn't win your ward even if they had Charles Kennedy standing in it; so if you decide to do it, you're certainly as good as any other person for the role (and probably better than lots of them), but if you don't, it's not as if you're letting down the ward or anything.

*huge hugs* though anyway, because I know how horrible it is when people tell you you'd be crap at things that you haven't even had a chance to try yet. (Dunno how they think anybody's supposed to get good at anything...)

:-((. FWIW, I have absolutely no reason to believe you'd've made a bad councillor, and every reason to believe you'd've made a good one. But I can certainly understand your decision, either way.

So, anyway, how's the bye-law for making attendance at WUS mandatory going? :-)

*hugs* I don't have a clue what sort of councillor you'd be but if it's something you'd really like to do you'll get there eventually and it doesn't matter what others think really. You'll work out for yourself whether you'll be good or not when you try.
I would say though that taking on potentially stressful stuff like this at the same time as dealing with the other stuff going on for you is NOT a good idea. You need to spend the time now looking after yourself and being able to focus on one thing at a time. You'll be better for it if you deal with it now. Taking on too much just takes your focus from sorting yourself out.
Sorry if that's sounding a little preachy but you know I have been/am there myself *grin*.
