Recap, and weekend

In my last post there were a whole series of house woes. The good news is the satellite dish cables are repaired, and no longer leak. And the two double-glazed units whose seal had gone have been replaced, with shiny new ones. That leaves the leaky bathroom wall.

So, the chap came to survey the wall on Wednesday 25th September. They took some photos and made some damp readings (which I now realise I can see on their portal). And then I heard nothing. On Friday I tried to ask the Insurers what was going on, and they transferred my call to the survey company, who:

• asked me about the state of the drying (the solid wall is dry, the plaster is still damp but needs removing, the wall should be OK to replaster once the plaster is removed)
• asked me who was doing the work (I confirmed I'd asked the Insurers to arrange a contractor, and this had also been agreed before they were appointed)
• told me they'd already sent a report on 1st October, and the case was now referred back to the insurers to appoint someone to do the work.

So, I had to call the insurers *again*. Where I spoke to someone who agreed to arrange to pay me enough money to cover the electricity, said they'd arrange to deep clean the carpet, and asked for photos of the damaged bath. Which I'd already sent them. They gave me another address to send them again. They were about to hang up when I asked "what about repairing the wall?" and they said they'd appoint another company to do that, and they'd be in touch soon to arrange a visit.

And then I got an automated email last thing on Friday to say they'd appointed the Survey company. So I probably need to ring them again, because they ignore emails unless prompted to look at them, and their web portal is broken. Gah.

In other news I had a nice weekend:

• We watched The Mask with Matthew - I'd never actually seen it before because Jim Carrey gets on my nerves a bit, but it was good
• I blocked my lovely Sweet Dreams shawl, and now I just need to weave in the two ends and it's done
• I started another shawl, called Trillian, in green, and it's going to be lovely too but *much* simpler
• I took my bike to be serviced, and it turns out the back wheel is cracked, so it's waiting to see if it's covered under Warranty, since that's not normal for only 15 months wear, even over 2600 miles. Bike shop is closed Sun/Mon so I won't hear until tomorrow or Weds. Just as well I can WFH!
• We played lots of Core Keeper and a bit of modded Minecraft (1.20.1 Forge, with the Create mod, in survival)
• I made my own potato bread thing using left-over mash!
• And today Matthew was meant to be doing a new club after school, but has just appeared at home, having come straight back because he couldn't find it! We will try again next week, but I've had to message Mike to let him know, since he'd already gone out for a roundabout route to meet him!

Back to work today, tidying up loose ends after student registration. I reckon it went quite well, considering we changed the process only a week before it happened, but there are always a few who simply didn't register, and a handful where there were technical issues with the registration process. We're getting there.

Oh yeah, obviously I'm delighted that the two after school things Matthew has got involved in are on the two days I currently usually work from home *eyeroll*

I may consider changing days, but it's rather nice WFH on Mike's day off!
