I'm leaving Twitter

I'm just arranging to download my Twitter data, and then I'm going to deactivate my account. I've been trying to wean myself off it for months, but unless I actually shut it down I'm never going to leave - there are still good things there, but they don't outweigh the bad.

I've told people there to come here to see my list of Where to find me.

Neither Mastodon nor Bluesky are really a full replacement, but both have good things. I have a few Bluesky invitation codes if anyone else wants to give it a try. If you're members of either I'd love to see you there!

I've been mildly curious about BlueSky, so if you do have a spare code, yes please.

I am still trying to figure out where the work twitter and the personal one will eventually move to. The work one turned out to grow and function well with international work people - while the personal one never became satisfying enough to even bother logging in. Probably I sort of fear moving both would make both of them worse. Speaking as the clinger on who never deleted their LJ and still cross posts there!

My LJ is still technically live, though I don't post there any more. I couldn't seem to make myself do the same with Twitter.

I definitely understand what you're saying about how hard it is to start over finding a new place though, particularly when you've built a space there for work.

Have they provided you with the data? I'm still waiting for my archive download to be ready, and I'm wondering if they're delaying it.

Yes, I got an email, and I also got a notification on Twitter itself. I had to use a desktop browser to download the data, rather than using the android app.
