I fear I should post here more often!
To fill in some of the gaps: we managed to visit Mike's parents in the May half term, and to spend a week in Northern Ireland with mum and dad and a week in the Lake District over the summer. I went to see Hamilton with Rachel for her birthday treat and it was *wonderful*, and I managed a visit to Oxford on my own for Jacqui's birthday, which included a swim in the river with Liz and Sadie and an ice cream in G&Ds with Janet, Duncan and H.
Matthew finally got two doses of Covid vaccine for under 11s in September, and I got a 4th dose (autumn booster). Mike still isn't eligible so it's over a year since his last jab. We're still taking some care not to get it, but not as strictly as before.
I did a cycling challenge in October for Diabetes UK and cycled a fair distance over the month and raised a bit of money. I'm still a pretty rubbish diabetic. I could eat better, and they'd also like me to lose weight. But the numbers are OK on the drugs, so it's not an enormous concern.
I got to visit mum and dad and see Steph and Oliver/Isobel in November, going up with just Matthew the weekend after my birthday while Mike was away for the weekend with friends. I think it may be the first time we've done it with just the two of us, but it was nice.
There was more striking in late November, as pension cuts were forced through and have since been shown unnecessary. We're also striking over pay and related concerns, especially given inflation. I did get a promotion though, and am now Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer, with an extra point on the pay scale to go with it. That plus our solar panels means we're weathering the cost of living crisis better than most.
We've had a good Christmas, but it was just the three of us, as Evan and Gina's heating isn't working. Mum and Dad have just come down for a very lovely New Year/Dad's birthday weekend though.
Plans for next year: go visit Em and James for a weekend at February half term and spend a few days with Evan and Gina too. Amused it's 5 hours from here to Lydney, 4 hours from here to Yeovil, and 4.5 hours from Yeovil to Lydney! But hey, it'll be three long journeys not four, so could be worse! We're also looking forward to a week in Northumberland with the whole family in the summer (touch wood). I'd love to catch up with more friends.
