Harrumph. Well now I know why it looked like only 1 mile on the route map to the rest/mechanic point at Roydon. They've drawn the blob on Nazeing instead of on Roydon. And Nazeing was indeed about a mile from the breakdown because that's the bit we did at walking pace. Oh well.

It was interesting for me to see how much I remembered of the route from last time. The sharp right turn into Kitten Lane, halfway down a steep hill. The playing fields at Widford. The Bull at Langdon, sitting in the shade and eating icecream. And the long pull uphill and back down again between there and Ickleton.
