I'm currently reading David Brin's _Uplift_ saga (Sundiver, Startide Rising, ...) and finding it most splendid.

I remember reading sundiver at school and at the time I mainly felt 'meh' -- I remember the idea of uplift being interesting, but not believing in giant mirrors, and thinking the plot was ok but nothing special. Do you think it's worth trying one of the sequels now?

Sundiver is essentially a whodunnit. Startide Rising (which I'm reading just now) seems to be turning out as more of an action book. So far it's set in and around a dolphin-crewed spaceship.
