egg.com are probably spammers
Dec. 14th, 2002 06:10 pmRichard recently had mail from them as documented at http://www.greenend.org.uk/rjk/2002/12/ukspammers.html. As a customer I was a bit pissed off about this, so I emailed them to complain, carefully not mentioning his contact details so they couldn't work out who I was referring to and give them special treatment.
Their reply said they did send adverts to people on their mailing lists, gave instructions on how he could be removed if he would send his details, and insinuated that he had never sent them a complaint because they reply to all emails.
I've sent them another stroppy mail back, but I'm busy applying for a new credit card as I speak and don't hold out much hope for them. This post is just a heads up for anyone else who uses them, especially given I've recommended them in the past. I certainly won't continue to use them in future as soon as I have a replacement card.

Date: 2002-12-14 03:03 pm (UTC)Who are you applying with, for reference? I'll probably move somewhere else if I get a good enough offer. (I have half a feeling that the "best" thing to do is move credit card about every nine months, but it's so much hassle.) Besides, I've thought of something jovial to do with my expired Egg (er, egg:| ) card.

Date: 2002-12-14 04:31 pm (UTC)I never go anywhere near my limit, I use the thing exactly like my switcch card, and try to spend only money I already own, the only reason I really wanted one was to be able to buy things abroad and to benefit from the extra security you get from using a credit card rather than debit.
And since the main bit of my job is chasing spam as postmaster spam really pisses me off, and no way am I supporting it even at this remove.
