If you use the Gimp, make sure you select 'cubic' rather than the default of 'linear'.
Doh! In fact there's a pile of whitespace at the top of the image anyway, which can come off, so:
This time just with the Gimp.
Another thing to consider doing would be to make the background transparent before resampling.
