Nothing much going on here in the middle of the night. It's more than four hours since my last dose of drugs, but if I take more now that's it til 4 tomorrow afternoon. 2 every 4 hours does not mix well with no more than 8 in 24 hours. So instead am sipping hot squash and trying not to squash too many kittens. Perhaps I should try it with the sound on at some point. 104 saved max at the moment, but mostly I only get around 45-60.

Any hints on sore throats caused by too much coughing? Must buy aspirin/ibuprofen for alternating with the paracetamol based remedies.

ETA: Thanks for the suggestions. Tropical fruit squash made with hot water was what actually helped me go back to bed last night, and I dug out the last couple of dequacaine tablets from the cupboard and one of those helped me sleep this morning. I seem to have completely lost my voice, which is comedy, as I can only check this by talking to myself at the moment.

Antiseptic lozenges. They numb the pain and help keep sore flesh from getting/staying infected. Or Chloroseptic spray.

Difflam throat spray. It's a marvel.

I find honey & lemon fairly soothing - ie. squeeze of lemon juice, tablespoon of honey, topped up with hot water.

Phlocodeine - a cough suppressant may help calm the coughing down - ask for it at the pharmacy counter.

Gargling with dispersible aspirin has also been recommended to me as a sore throat treatment.

If you want to soothe rather than numb... Honey and Lemon

If you want to numb rather than soothe... Chloraseptic throat spray (it's what singers use)

Alternate with Ibuprofen not asprin. Asprin's an odd beast and I wouldn't tend to mix it unless I had no alternative. Fine to gargle with, though.

Buy some losenges with some local anaesthetic in. Strepsils do some, though not all of theirs are. It won't cure anything, but it'll make you feel better.

Difflam spray, as already mentioned, and I love Tyrozets too (anaesthetic lozenges you can get over the counter at Boots).

Soothing stuff, as well as the painkillers; something hot and/or fruity and/or with a spoon of honey?

Gargle with soluble aspirin -- it gets absorbed into the bloodstream quicker that way (apparently, & it seems to have a quicker effect anyway). And whatever else you're doing, keep drinking lots of water -- it'll keep the cough loose & stop your throat getting dry.

(I'd normally second the recommendation for Tyrozets, too, but I'd also be wary of taking too many drugs all at once!)

Honey and lemon's pretty good at soothing (and may help with the cough, too). Also, you can get dequacaine (sp?) losenges, which have a mild local anaesthetic in them.

I always find lemon & ginger tea with honey is the best thing. Hope you feel better soon!
