Originally taken as three monochrome images on the same glass plate with different colour filters these would have been shown with a projector with three images superimposed and projected through the same three filters to give a colour image. Digital image manipulation techniques have been used to reproduce the images as they might have been seen, though perhaps with contrast and colour balance tweaked a little. Fabulous results, and a fascinating view of 1910ish Russia in full colour.

Funny, that, I was visiting the same website at more or less the same point today - a friend of Jen's told us about the archive at the beginning of December, and I remembered to go and have a look today.

Wow, those are superb! I even like the way you sometimes see 'ghosts' of people who moved between exposures. Brilliant.
