Only a couple of bits of blue paint on me, and the drop that fell on the carpet washed out. The rest of the first wall's skirting board is now done, and so is the radiator. Not a bad start. Other than that today I have mostly been geeking. Though I did also find out from NTL what cable telly would cost us (25 quid installation and 8.50 a month on the cheapest package). Will see if we can reconfigure the video so C5 works better, and if not this will be pretty tempting. Off to the pub soon. Then rjk needs to pack tonight since we're off to visit my parents after work tomorrow.

Cable telly is usually not a bad deal, if you get the phone bundled up at a decent rate too. Some of the sell-stuff channels are a hoot when you're bored, and you'll probably get British Eurosport with coverage of some of the US motor-racing that I miss...

For £8.50 a month you wouldn't get Eurosport…

I'm assuming that's a very basic package that doesn't even have Sky One in it (not that we watch that very much). I'm currently paying NTL £18 for a 150k broadband connection and £28 for the "family pack" TV service. A telephone line (usually about a tenner a month) is included in one of those but I don't recall which offhand.

If the object is mainly to get a decent Channel 5 signal (we don't watch that very much either) then you should consider Freeview (http://www.freeview.co.uk/) which these days is about 60 quid for the setup and free ever after. (I paid £200 for mine, as it was when On Digital were first getting started. It doesn't get much use now.)

It does have Sky 1 and British Eurosport.

Oh, furry nuff. Mind you, I wonder what we get for our extra tenner a month. (Yes, there's a list (http://www.ntlhome.co.uk/ntl_tv/family_listing.html) but I'm not good at mental diffing.)

600K broadband (£19.99)

£24.99, it says here (http://www.ntlhome.co.uk/ntl_internet/cost_broadband.asp?cust=ntlhome_intbroadband). Four times the speed for an extra two quid didn't quite sound right.

That makes sense, yes. They stopped offering the `buy your own modem' scheme not long before I signed up.

It looks like most prices are staying the same, but the 1Mbit service is going up.
