Glad I took a long one. Theory test at 10 (about to head out). TV due today. If it arrives early enough and the weather cooperates we'll probably go punting this afternoon, just the two of us.

Update: passed! 35/35 on multiple guess, 53/75 points on hazard perception. Another 2 years to sort out the practical aspect then.

Hope the test has gone well! And fingers crossed for the plans for the rest of the day. See you tomorrow!

Yay! Well done. Roll on the practical :)

Remember you only have to pass the practical once to be allowed to drive for the next 40 years or so.

So you've really only failed it twice. England is full of people who've taken more goes than that to pass. I bet you a pint of your favorite Cambridge winter beer festival tipple that you pass on your next go.

Well done.

I assume we're talking some new-fangled driving test?

better on a real car

Yeah, I failed to identify anything correctly on that picture apart from the dipstick and the battery. On a real car you can generally see useful things like labels and where pipes are going.

If I'd been given that picture and those questions in a test I'd be writing letters of complaint by now. The labels obscure various interesting and useful details, not that the picture is particularly clear anyway. I got 5/10 whereas I'd expect to get 10/10 on a real engine where I could actually see what was connected to what.

Congrats on passing and erk on the practical bit - I had a look at the page and well, I can do some of those things on Rapunzel's car cos he's shown me how, but of course, it looks totally different from that photo!

Definately; I only got three of the questions correct on the "locate the $foo" part. That is mainly due to the crapness of the picture more than anything else.

After all its kinda hard to tell the difference between one translucent plastic container and another in a random car engine :)

Good grief, yes, that's an appalling picture!

And a stupid idea too; cars actually come with manuals. The first time I want to know where to look for the oil dipstick in my car, I just RTFM! It's always worked for me so far.

(And I don't see why I should need to know the thing about tyre legality either, since I own a dedicated tyre gauge with a convenient mark to indicate the minimum legal tread depth. All I need to know is where I last left the gauge, and they can't ask me that in a test ;-)

Still, congrats on being adequately theoretical. Or something like that. :-) *hugs*

3 out of 9!! General agreement re the crapness of the picture, and yes I do know where to find my car's manual. :-)

Well, I didn't dare do this at all until I saw that everyone else couldn't do it either! And then I got 6, which is cheering. I don't think much of the interface either; what's A: B; B: A doing in a multichoice? And then the results say Wrong; K is correct; M is the radiator cap, and you think piss off, it's the radiator cap I was looking for, and then you work out it's actually agreeing with you.

And the garage said I didn't need a new passenger side front tyre yet and the tread is barely visible...

Congrats, anyway.
