Ouch, on so many levels.
Jun. 13th, 2003 03:20 pmFinger broken, got to go back to hand clinic on Tuesday morning and keep it strapped up til then. Given driving testis on Wednesday morning I've had to cancel it, because I can't drive. No chance of getting money back. No possibility of another test before August, when my theory runs out. Feel like whole attempt to learn to drive has been a complete and utter waste of money, and not even just my money at that since much of it was a gift in BSM vouchers.
Didn't get to reschedule lunch with August because I was stuck in addies and he was busy anyway. I think I probably hurt too much to do B-movie tonight.
What a mess.

Date: 2003-06-13 07:41 am (UTC)Small consolation, if it's any help - broken fingers take less time to heal than other bones, IME (and I've broken all of mine, on various occasions, over the years).

Date: 2003-06-13 08:29 am (UTC)It's another £30(?), on top of the £50 lost for the cancelled test. And not only have they changed the question set in the last two years, but introduced the "hazard perception" test which you can fail by being too good.
Basically, it sucks dead bunnies through a straw.

Date: 2003-06-13 04:26 pm (UTC)I'm given to understand that there's basically a window of time in which you're supposed to notice and react to the hazard. If you spot it and react outside this window, it counts against you, even if it's before the start of the window. A bit like how athletes can have false starts for leaving the blocks after the gun but before they're supposed to have had time to react. So basically if you're too alert, too predictive, or have a very good reaction time, you can fail.

Date: 2003-06-13 07:59 am (UTC)Learning to drive hasn't been a total waste of money (though I think it's appalling that they can't give you a refund on the test even when you've broken your fingers!!) -- you've still had the learning, & that's less learning that you'll have to do when you're able to drive again. But I do sympathise.

I send a hug. A gentle one, I can't do any other kind at the moment and I don't think you'd like a firm one just now.

Date: 2003-06-13 01:38 pm (UTC)Don't worry about waste of vouchers from this neck of the woods. I might have bought you a ghastly picture with the same money last Christmas and you'd have had to run and get it out of the shed whenever I came to stay. As it is, your driving has advanced this year, and you will get there in the end.
Anyway, buying vouchers was a better option than the risks I took with life and sanity sitting in with
