OK so why are the starlings in the roof suddenly so much noisier?

Cough kept me awake til 2, birds woke me up at 5, and they're *still* making a racket. Fortunately the futon is still up in the spare room, so I'm going to see if I can get more sleep there.

Is there much eating on a starling?

There was what appeared to be a teenage starling on my doorstep this morning, making very loud repetitive noises and generally driving the cat (who was shut inside) into a tail-swishing frenzy. Just when I thought it had fallen out of its nest and was in need of help it flew away :/
So yes, I guess it's starling family season. I've heard of people eating them but you'd have to have an awful lot to make a pie.
