I'm curious about how far people commute by bike in Cambridge.

Arse, I missed 2-3 miles off the poll. Please accept my apologies and vote/comment again in the new version.

Feel free to add your commute even if you only do it once a week, rather than every day, and do comment with details if you'd like, or vote in comments if you don't have a livejournal account.

If your commute is entirely outside the city boundaries but you still consider yourself a Cambridge cyclist (perhaps you live in one of the boundary villages?) then do vote, but please comment.

NB in the second question "don't know/other" is intended to cover the answer "I am not a Cambridge cycle commuter". I knew I should have made that a specific option.

I had to look up whether where I work was in the boundaries or not :-).

It's definitely under 3 anyway :-). I'm pretty sure it's under 2 though it may depend on route.

Commutes I Have Known include Stretten Avenue to the science park (a mile and a half), and Stretten Avenue to Bottisham (eight miles). Fortunately, I no longer commute. Unfortunately, I am nowhere near Cambridge.

When I lived in Cambridge my ride to work was in the 1 - 2 mile bracket, fwiw, within the city boundaries.

Council page with link to PDF map showing city boundary, to save other people having to google for it.

In my previous house, my commute was 3.3 miles by bike and almost entirely within the city boundary (Cambridge Airport -> Science Park).

Now (Lode -> Science Park) it's either 8 or 9 miles depending on which way I go (the 8 mile route involves a 1 mile section of the B1102 between Quy and Lode which has no cycle path, the 9 mile route takes a 2 mile detour along the A1303 via Bottisham to avoid this). The route is almost entirely outside the city boundary and only crosses it briefly to come up through Chesterton at the end.

[Given this last point, I don't actually consider myself a Cambridge cyclist any more really; I don't read camcycle, for instance, or cam.transport.]

Have they gone downhill recently, then?

I cycle with K to school and then walk on to work. It's certainly less than a mile to school, and probably still under a mile altogether.

I used to do about 5.5 miles from Madingley Rd P&R to ARM, but I always had the option of taking the lazy way out and just driving all the way to work.
