Ha, work have lent me a laptop but the person who knows the admin password is on holiday and neither of the standard ones work, so it's just a large paperweight.

Foot still improving but slowly. Beginning to get v bored of this sofa. Thank god for the wii!

ps: am now downloading ubuntu live cd to try. sitting at desk makes my ankle ache.

What Wii games are you playing? Glad it's managing to keep you sane, maybe it's time to get stuck into Nethack again...

mostly using the web browser or playing guitar hero since i don't have to keep getting up to change disks that way. plus sonic 2 yesterday which i downloaded a while back in a fit of nostalgia.

gekking from the sofa is better than trying to sit at my desk but the wii's browser is a bit limited, not least in having to type by pointing at a keyboard on the screen.

nethack not yet available for wii :)

That's a good idea about downloading games, that should save having to change discs and there must be lots of free demos out there. I've just recently discovered all the games you can get for the iPod Touch, and Samurai Puzzle Battles has been making my commutes fly by for weeks now.

Ooh, wonder if you can get Nethack for that yet?

I've not investigated free demos - not sure there are any, but have been downloading stuff from the nintendo shop thing, which you pay for in points which you buy with real money (although you can also use stars to buy points and you get stars free when you register some games). So Sonic probably cost about 3 quid, which seems a bit steep in some ways but I think was worth it, as was Super Mario World (from the SNES) and Mike's got The Last Ninja was way back on the commodore 64. They vary a bit how many points they cost.

That's a shame - I've not really dabbled with online consoles much, but my computer game developer friend has mentioned that Microsoft insists that games on the XBox have a free demo on XBox Live.

Three quid for Sonic sounds fair enough, and from what I remember of Super Mario World it was huge. Hope the recuperation's going well, how much longer do you expect to be sofa-bound?

Hard to say. It's mostly not hurting to put my foot down while getting about with the crutches today, which is an improvement, but it still aches if I stay at the computer too long, and I wouldn't want to walk without the crutches or splint-thing either. And even when I can get about a bit more work might be a bit awkward: I'm not sure when I'll be OK to cycle, and it's about 0.8 miles to the bus stop, which is a bit far.

Mostly with the wii I don't play many of the games in online mode anyway: it's a nuisance trying to meet up with friends, and to be honest so far offline play has been largely as good as or better than online play. But the web browser has been occasionally handy in the past and *brilliant* this week, despite the appalling resolution.

I'm considering it. Though it's probably OK to work from my desk now instead actually, which makes the laptop even more pointless.

Is there any in particular that you'd recommend as being a) easy and b) likely to drive the wireless card in the HP laptop in question? Localised isn't really necessary, since I don't normally go for the DPO look and feel anyway.
