Often just "control" or "controller". Sometimes "thingy" :-)

Aye, us too. Its function is that of controlling, whereas the remoteness is merely a desirable attribute.

Surely remoteness from oneself isn't desirable though...

At least, I think that's what I'd call it. It's not a thing I ask people to pass me very often :)

Clinker, or Clicker? I clinked - er, clicked clinker but it's because I thought you'd probably mean clicker.

In other news, I'm not a pheasant plucker. That was my Dad's job.

Just "zap", normally with the name of which box it's for in front... so "TV Zap" or "Freeview Zap" or "DVD Zap" etc

And another vote for "thingy" from here. Not that we have a TV these days, but.... I'm not sure we even have a stereo with a remote any more.

At this point in the pregnancy it's the "...um..." but then so is nearly everything in the house (and the few things I do name, I get wrong).

But then, since I'm not allowed to be in charge of it if Adrian is around (a battle just not worth fighting) I rarely have to ask for it to be passed to me anyway ;-)

Zapper, but also "mocron" because that was how YoungBloke pronounced "remote control" when he was younger.

In English I say “remote”. In Swedish I say “fjÀrrkontroll”, which means “remote control”.

"Remote" and "remote control" but no "control"? :-)

In my parents' house it's called the "stick" — the first remote controlled thing we had was a Hitachi VCR and its control was long and thin. After that came the "telly stick" which wasn't quite so stick-shaped but the terminology had already stuck.
