Note from David Howarth's press secretary to Cycling Campaign committee yesterday:

I just wanted to let you know what a great response we've had from the
Cycling Campaign on the petition. We now have 330 signatures to hand in
tomorrow, which is just amazing. Thank you so much! I hope that the
Government starts to take note

There'll probably be more arriving this morning too.

And there's also hints that something might be happening in the Lords as well as the Commons.

Update: Can I just say Well Done to everyone who sent in a petition, or encouraged someone else to do so. Thanks.

Yes, it's a snowball effect. Most people on that newsgroup only knew about the issue in the first place because I'd already posted to the group about it, and I'd posted about it because j4 had told me about it, and she knew about it because someone had posted about it on LJ.... etc, etc.

Hey, I want to apologise for doing the "eh, doesn't look like a problem to me" last time you posted about this. I was wrong there. Petition duly signed (at the office - there are a good few names coming from here).

My favourite analogy to use here is "Imagine you're in a car heading for the M40, and you find that actually you aren't allowed to use the M40 - you have to use the windy B-road running not quite parallel to it, but to get there you first have to cross the M40 on the flat. And then you have to cross it again a few miles later. Oh, and the whole road has Give Way signs every 100 metres."

That's a nice one. Round here (eg cam.transport) whenever someone asks why cyclists don't all use the facilities it's quite common to ask why the drivers don't all use the park and ride. I like yours better though.
