Obviously there's still a long way to go, but a fair bit of it is at least already partially sorted out, if not yet packed. One free weekend remaining, then a weekend away for my sister's hen night, then 2 days off in the week before the move. I can see why people get professional movers to do the packing as well as moving!

Yeah, we've decided to bite the financial bullet and are getting quotes from people to whom we can just say "pls move stuff, kthxbye". London to Oxford's also far enough that it's way saner to have someone move us in a lorry rather than shuttling back and forth in a van ourselves, so that's our excuse..

The box with the kettle in must have KETTLE written on it in black marker in enormous letters.

We'll have a slightly smaller issue with the "Don't take any of the landlord's crap" thing, but fortunately there's little enough of that that it's solvable with "Don't take any of the stuff with yellow Post-Its stuck on it". Harder when you're dealing with things like disentangling books, though.

When I moved last year I didn't actually pack the kettle. My moving process was a little complex as I had to get some stuff from my mum's house (mainly a bed) with a mate driving a van, drop the bed off at the new house and then go to the old flat to move the stuff. The kettle was at the new house so it just went with us on the front seat of the van, along with coffee mate (easier than messing around with fresh milk), tea, coffee, a teaspoon and 2 cups. At about £45 for van hire this was probably one of the cheapest moves to do, but it helps that my friend and I don't minding carrying and shifting heavy stuff.

Argh, I remember the weeks of coming home from work and spending the evening packing. Looks like we'll be doing it again this year. Good luck!
