Minor illness kind of interrupted my evening. Was feeling fine all day until just before I went out to pizza, when I noticed I was having trouble peeing without it hurting. Drank lots of water, still hurts and of course I need to go lots. Then I realise I'm peeing pink. Uh-oh. Tried to stick out post-pizza for a bit but was feeling too uncomfortable and vaguely worried about it, so went home instead. Phoned NHS direct, who say if it gets worse call emergency doc but otherwise see GP in morning. Will probably be a urinary tract infection requiring anti-biotics. In the meantime drink lots, and go to the loo as soon as you feel the need. Thankfully thought to check painkillers were OK, and having taken a couple of ibuprofen I'm now feeling much less bad than I was. It's a shame really, missed seeing Mike this evening, since he didn't get back from the gym til after I'd left. And it's going to mess up scheduling tomorrow, having to go to the docs. Ah well, can't be helped much.

I brought home a load of tablets from the US last year specifically designed to knock out UTI pain while the antibiotics get on with their job. There seems to be no such notion over here. Want some?

Ouch, I feel your pain, having suffered from such infections some time ago. Unfortunately there isn't much one can do except for drinking lot of water/unsweetened tea and waiting for the antibiotics to do their work... Hope you'll get well soon!

Cranberry juice! Cranberry juice!

I have very un-fond memories of a trip back from Ikea (the Thurrock one) in a rented transit van that only I was insured to drive, punctuated every few minutes by me stopping to pee and drink more cranberry juice.

Apparently that's better as prevention rather than cure.

Definitely feeling much better this morning, but going to the doctors anyway.

The offer stands if you reconsider. I have a lot of friends who swear by these tablets, but haven't had to take them myself yet. I hate to see them go to waste. But I'm sure someone will want them eventually.

Sounds like cystitis - I get it intermittently, usually if stressed/short of sleep. If I notice soon enough, drinking immense quantities of water, resting, painkillers will sort it out. Twice it's got bad enough I required ABs (which are remarkably effective).
