On the way back on the train (first class! woo!) there were free copies of the Times. In tabloid format, which was a bit weird. But anyway, in their review section they had a pop review of Glastonbury which really bugged me. They only mentioned acts on the main two stages, completely ignoring the others. Which given it was a pop review might have been ok in a lot of cases but you'd have thought they'd have at least looked in on the New tent too. The Bees were admittedly the only people I went to see in there but they were fabulous, and Andrew and Duncan were both very keen on other people they saw there too. The other huge flaw was that they completely failed to review anyone who was on on Sunday. You'd have thought the festival was only two days long! Did the mud scare them off? OK so I missed both Gomez and the Divine Comedy myself through wimping out in the tent and listening to Supergrass from there instead who were excellent. And the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Muse were both fantastic. *grumble*

The BBC has reported (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3849097.stm) that the father of Muse drummer Dominic Howard died of an apparent heart attack shortly after watching the band play though. I suppose any journalists there would have been distracted by that and would have focussed on the news story at the expense of festival coverage and band reviews.

The New Tent was so bloody far away from everything else, across a wasteland of sticky mud ... I don't think I made it to anything up there in the end.

The Divine Comedy are playing the Cambridge Folk Festival anyway so you've another chance to see them (I missed them too semi-deliberately for that reason). :-)

I think part of the thing with Glastonbury is that you couldn't review everything, it's impossible to see even half the things you want to (IME anyway) ... everybody has a different experience of the festival and all that anybody can do really is write some of their own experience. I wouldn't want to just stay at the Pyramid & Other stages the whole time, but then I wouldn't want to stay in the GreenFields the whole time weaving my own chakra-enhancing yoghurt either, and some people just do that kind of stuff... I tend to try to do a bit of everything but I probably don't do any of it as wholeheartedly as I might, IYSWIM.

ITV had the same problem with the Goodwood Festival Of Speed, judging from their coverage. No excuse for so much time spent burbling about bugger-all with Button, though.
I'd watch a full 30 minutes just of the Gravity Club's downhill soapbox trials, personally.

Oh I know you can't review everything, I was mostly miffed they completely missed out Sunday, it seemed to be rather missing the point, especially when there was a whole load of good pop on. I don't know if Oasis were lacklustre and Paul Mc a bit bland since I didn't go and see either of them, but they seemed to be giving the whole thing a rather tepid review (3 stars) mostly on the basis of the Friday and Saturday headliners.

I love the whole something different for everyone thing, and I think I tend to approach it the same way you do. With more emphasis on the music than the hand-knitted yoghurt admittedly. Or indeed the more performing arts style stuff in the theatre/cabaret/circus areas.

I kind of wanted to see if the Divine Comedy played different stuff at each festival, but yes, it'll be good to see them in a month's time.

Paul Mc a bit bland

He might have been, but the only full song we sa (after we wandering down from the accostic tent), was "Live and Let Die", which had fab fireworks, and on-stage towers of FLAME.

We got bored after that, and wandered off again...
