Nice dinner with rjk, met the others in the Arts Cinema bar and very shiny we all looked too. Enjoyed the film, though it was a bit pred. Was particularly amused at the row of geeks all expressing disdain at Trinity's usual cinematic 1337 hacking skills. Stayed for the teaser at the end of the film, though mostl it involved things going bang, so no surprises there then. Shall look forward to the next one. Slight awkward moment outside as we try to work out which kittens are being herded in which direction, and rjk and I left the others still discussing and got a taxi home, since he wasn't feeling like clubbing and I probably shouldn't.

Possibly wearing a corset when you have a cough unwise. Seem to have made it through film in one piece though. Remains to be seen if I will still be in one when I take it off. Don't seem to have words for what I feel like inside at the moment. Or not ones I can share anyway.

And my taxi followed yours at a distance of 20 feet, or thereabouts, all the way back. I should just have said "follow that taxi" - I've always wanted to do that!

Nor I.

I figured Trinity's skillz were far beyond the usual cinematic fare - actual, real-world tools used appropriately, a known exploit for an actual problem. I must have missed all the other films where that happens... ;)

I'd have somewhat liked to go clubbing actually, but my mood disintegrated after the film and I do have to go to work this morning anyway, so "not" was surely the more sensible decision.

But the Matrix is a simulacrum of the real world, so in that sense they are in the real world. It would have been utterly inappropriate in Zion, but since the Matrix is supposed to replicate our "real world" circa 1999, surely that's *exactly* what Skript Kiddiez in the Matrix would be using?

When I saw the screen shots, before I saw the movie, I thought much the same - "Zion runs SSHv1? How stupid.". But since the sequence is actually in the Matrix, I don't see the problem, any more than there's a problem with a Ducati 996 in the Matrix. People in our world ride Ducati 996s. People in our world use unpatched SSH daemons and skript kiddiez in 1999 (or thereabouts) used that exploit.

And how utterly inappropriate is that given they're not in the real world?

Ah, but they are... ;) A matrix-level program (like the French cursing chappie's) may not have been available or possible at such short notice, and presumably playing within the system sets off fewer alarms for Agents to find you.

Not showing what she was doing at all was probably the better choice, though.

Have you seen Final Flight of the Osiris?
