Really good party last night for the most part, and I was having a good time. But then there was an incident which upset Richard so we came home. Strange how different unacceptable behaviour can seem when it's coming from someone you love rather than someone you don't know well. It's left me all in a muddle and upset and not sure what to do. Avoiding talking to them for the meantime until my head's a bit straighter.

Full of cold so taking today off work sick. Wish I'd just taken it as holiday after all. Driving lesson due at lunchtime, will have to move it some other time and pay for it anyway, but I'm really not up to it today I don't think. Tried to ring them but they're not answering the phone. Suppose I should give it another try.

Um. It's a bank holiday, isn't it? Don't you get bank holidays off anyway? Or are Rapunzel and I sitting around at home when we really ought to be at work?

I get 35 days of holiday a year, which includes any bank holidays. Tradition in my department at least is that if bank hols are in the university hols one usually takes them off, if they're in term you can take them or leave them, but we're expected to have a reasonable level of cover. In effect this is only really the two in May. Since Caroline was working it wouldn't have been a problem taking this one off, I just feel a bit bad taking both of them off if she's working both. Must get over that I think.

Okay, I think I understand that.

And yes, get over the 'responsibility' thing! Seriously, planning hols too much around it means you end up being the one working all the BHs. Besides which, I'm sure if she'd wanted the days off, she'd've taken them!

Here we're supposed to co-ordinate leave with our pair, so in theory one person covers both groups of lecturers. My pair and I have managed to be away at the same nearly every time in the last two years and no-one really minds.
