Today I had a long lie-in, did some tidying, some washing up, and some washing, sorted and filed a bunch of memorabilia (birthday cards, postcards, gig tickets and festival programmes and the like), and pottered about in the mean time. A rather cosmopolitan dinner: chilli made with baked beans since I couldn't find kidney beans in the cupboard and hey it's just extra tomatoeyness, served with a tiny amount of rice cos it was the tail end of the bag, plus garlic bread, and a chinese mini snack selection, with wine both French and Aussie. Knitting progresses. Top I was making is finished. And as predicted far too small for me, especially as my inferior crochet technique has made the armholes a little snug. Anyone with a 36" chest want a pretty blue summery top? Anyway have started another with more stitches and more practice it should hopefully come out more my size. No more news of people crashing today, so that's good.

I assume you know about frogging?

I'm working on Clapotis (http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall04/PATTclapotis.html) and Tempting (http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter04/PATTtempting.html) at the moment (or at least when I can be bothered).

Also, have [livejournal.com profile] knitting pimped at you, if you're not already a member.

... I think this post was originally going to be me going "oooh oooh oooh can I see?", but I got sidetracked :p

And [livejournal.com profile] brit_knits.

I keep meaning to look seriously at Clapotis but I think I already have too many WIPs.

Given that it started out so huge it's odd that it ended up so small...

Wow... chilli with baked beans. I must make that at some point for childhood flashbacks. I used to really dislike the dense, floury texture of kidney beans, so when I was a young the chilli was always made with baked beans.

Top sounds lovely, as long as you mean 36'' bra size!
If so, I am more than happy to take it off your hands and reimburse you for being my exclusive knitwear designer!
Oh, and if you're coming to Glastonbury this year, would you please teach me how to knit?
Thanks
Faye

Having attempted to teach people, and watched, and so on:

do not begin with casting on.

Really, really don't.

And the first few rows are always a pain to.

A face cloth or something in garter stitch would be good :) Or a scarf for a teddy, but I think that works better with the eight-year-olds *g*

Fraid not, 36" actual chest size. But it does have a bit of stretch to it.

Oooh, stretchy 36 is my size!

I should start knitting again.

Wow... chilli with baked beans.

Ecch.
Thing is though, how did beans wind up in chilli con carne in the first place? From what I can find out about the original Tex-Mex incarnation of the dish, it didn't contain beans at all.

Incidentally, [livejournal.com profile] lnr may be interested to know that just about the hottest chilli sauce in the world is called Blair's Caldera (http://ironq.com/blair_s_caldera.html) (not named after your Linux distro, is it?) It weighs in at a staggering 100 times hotter than a jalapeƱo pepper and costs 5,500 USD a bottle.

I've certainly encountered chilli that didn't contain beans, with claims that it's the "authentic" version. However, given beans are otherwise quite notable in Texmex cuisine I wouldn't be terribly surprised if people had the idea of combining the beans and ground beef into the same pot more than once.

My brother has something of a chilli sauce collection, a while ago he had a bottle of Blair's 3am reserve (http://ironq.com/3am_reserve.html). That was er... rather hot.

A snip at a mere sixty bucks!
I usually have at least one bottle of Encona and another of Tabasco-type sauce on the go at any one time, though I suspect that at 60 USD this stuff would make Encona taste like Netto's tomato ketchup.
