Funny how going into work at a slightly different time can make the same journey so different. School children on Stretten Ave, and hordes of undergrads on bikes about to be late for lectures on Trinity Street, and a different set of faces in the corridors of the department.

You scored as Postmodernist. Postmodernism is the belief in complete open interpretation. You see the universe as a collection of information with varying ways of putting it together. There is no absolute truth for you; even the most hardened facts are open to interpretation. Meaning relies on context and even the language you use to describe things should be subject to analysis.

What is Your World View?

Peter apparently had trouble answering lots of the questions. I found my view could swing from agree to strongly-disagree and back again depending on how I looked at a question. I don't think my answers were necessarily all completely consistent with one another, but then while I believe in rational explanations for the building blocks of life and how they interact with one another I don't believe human thought to be rational. So God can be a construct of Man but there's still the existence of spirituality: in what we think and feel and believe and strive for. In fact (Jeff Buckley's rendition in particular of) Hallelujah suddenly comes to mind. That feeling of upliftedness even through sadness which I was trying to describe to Jamie earlier this week is just the sort of thing I'm thinking of.

All a bit profound for 9:30 on a Thursday morning. I never could get the hang of Thursdays.

The problem is statements like this: "Evolution is true and is taking us closer to the spiritual." I agree very strongly with the first part of the sentence, and disagree very strongly with the second part (because I don't believe in "the spiritual" at all). So I put down "disagree strongly", but my disagreement is very different from the disagreement of someone who believes evolution is not true. (And if we're really going to nitpick, "evolution is true" is not a very meaningful statement).

("Materialism" is about more than fundamental particles and reductionism, too).

I couldn't understand half the questions, so I gave up answering it. E.g. "Human life has been a self-alienation of god and we're moving closer to realizing ourselves as such" - what on earth does that mean? Or "If given free range, man will find his own place in the universe" - is this a question about interstellar exploration, or the importance of religion, or what? Given free range by who?
