First day at work

So I only found out I was going in today at midnight last night, and I slept on the sofa again since my snoring was keeping rjk awake, but despite being tired it wasn't a bad start back at work at all. Much of it was given over to running windowsupdate and virus checking on my desktop and clearing 6 months' backlog of mail. But we had time to go through how the virus filtering is working these days and for me to get to grip with the new wiki they've got in the computing group and to use it to document when I'd just learned. Back at 9:30 tomorrow, and I'm feeling pretty positive about the whole thing at the moment. The lovely weather possibly helps!

(Do you happen to know what type of wiki they're using? We're looking at setting one up in lab too at the moment, suggestions welcomed if anyone has any.)

I'm impressed by MoinMoin. Doesn't look as ugly to me as most wikis (obviously a rather subjective view), has some nice layout options, and makes it fairly easy to plug in new kinds of formatting (e.g. for LaTeX).

They seem to have gone for KWiki (http://kwiki.org/). It seems extremely simple for the user. Michael's set up a few extra tag things in it so it seems at least veguely sensibly customisable.

It does seem a bit basic, in that you don't seem to be able to organise pages in a heirarchical manner, which I've found useful on the wiki Richard set up at home. Which seems to be an instance of TWiki (http://twiki.org/) (anyone get a sense of deja vu?).

I'm not really an expert though, haven't used many or used any of them much.

LNR's already said what eng are using. We've found Twiki (http://twiki.org/) very useful where I work (I chose it for home primarily on the grounds of familiarity). It's flexible and extensible, and most documents written/maintained within development use the wiki now.

9:30 to 12:30 days kind of make that not so bad. It was lovely cycling in this morning. And my office is cool and has a nice view, which is more than I have here at home.
