I read lots of Garner in the 80s - The Owl Service was a set book at school, and people kept giving me copies of his works because I was generally obsessed with fantasy at that age and they assumed I would love them. I didn't. I don't know why, but there's something about his style (not the content, that's great) that just sets my teeth on edge. I actually read The Owl Service four times in an attempt to like it, but just grew heartily sick of it!
