Turns out it was on the phone not the sim - as I discovered when I stuck the sim in Mike's phone. But once I'd deleted all the other messages off the phone it suddenly became readable for some reason, so I finally got rid of it. Was the first half of a two part message, which I guess was why the icon was the way it was. No idea where the other part went mind!
