I guess it's a good idea that people I don't know enormously well check they're invited. Less so if I've met you on lots of occasions than if only once or twice.

It feels like people should know whether their presence would be welcomed or not without having to ask, because, AFAICS, if you ask 'Can I come?' it's quite hard for someone to say 'Err, actually, no'.
As it happens there are a fair number of people going who I'd like to meet, but given that I've got a mock exam next Monday evening, I can't really spend Saturday night travelling to Cambridge, going to a party and coming back again, so it's kind of a moot point. I hate the way the LPC means I don't get a social life:-(
