This sauce contained "spices", so who knows what is in it. I found a couple of web (http://www.sallys-place.com/food/columns/gilbert/cilantro.htm) pages (http://www.gardensablaze.com/HerbCoriander.htm) referring to soapy taste from coriander. Cumin doesn't appear to have the same reputation; perhaps the record on the kitchen board is erroneous? I'm reasonably sure I've had the same taste from things without Cardamom in (though I know that's supposed to be liable to such things).
