Hen night

I'm not a very girly girl, but I love traditions and a hen night is traditional. My sister has volunteered to organise it so it will be in reasonably good taste. So who would like to be invited to come along to my hen night? Dates, times, etc will be organised later, but probably the 21st/22nd of August. [Poll #1594664]

Apologies for the repeat, but I messed up the poll. I'm still interested in how far people in Cambridge typically cycle to work. Not that I think this will get very statistically valid answers of course. [Poll #1414849]

Google maps, and bikely may help you plot your journey to find out how long it is, and here's a map of the boundaries

Feel free to add your commute even if you only do it once a week, rather than every day, and do comment with details if you'd like, or vote in comments if you don't have a livejournal account.

If your commute is entirely outside the city boundaries but you still consider yourself a Cambridge cyclist (perhaps you live in one of the boundary villages?) then do vote, but please comment.

I'm curious about how far people commute by bike in Cambridge.

Arse, I missed 2-3 miles off the poll. Please accept my apologies and vote/comment again in the new version.

NB in the second question "don't know/other" is intended to cover the answer "I am not a Cambridge cycle commuter". I knew I should have made that a specific option.

When Julia and I recently moved office we took advantage of the new space to buy a kettle and a really small fridge. This means my lunch can now involve such exciting things as pot-couscous and salads which would be a bit grim if left at room temperature until lunchtime. But I still can't manage soup unless I bring a flask, or anything as exciting as a ready-meal or a jacket potato. Still, it means I'm no longer living on sandwiches, soup and crisps from our mini-canteen.

What cooking/catering facilities do *you* have at work? (NB your "canteen" could just be a vending machine). [Poll #1405942]

We still have to do the washing up in the sinks in the Ladies mind, which is mildly off-putting.

Mike's working next Saturday, so I thought I might invite a few people round. Maybe just for a drink or maybe to play on the wii. And at some point I really do mean to invite more people round just for a party.

EDIT: NB I was thinking of the poll as "in general" rather than specifically this coming weekend.

I have a cold. On Monday I was very bunged up, with a sore throat and feeling grim. On Tuesday I was snotty, blowing my nose every five minutes. Today I'm a bit less runny-nosed but coughing. I've had a mild headache on and off all week, and I'm knackered.

I don't have a fever and it's certainly not the flu. I get the impression quite a few people would go into work in this state: "it's only a cold". What do you think? [Poll #1287169]

Lots of people are talking about the UK plan to totally ban smoking in enclosed public places which was voted through yesterday evening. Most of my friends list who have commented seem keen, though some have reservations. I'm curious as to what those who've not said anything yet feel. Do propogate this as widely as you like. Personally I think it's a good move, though I would have been as happy with the amendment which allowed smoking in private clubs. I do think a total ban in pubs is an excellent step. And no, I don't smoke, though I have in the past been in the "Well... a bit " category. - oh yeah and just to add I am still occasionally tempted if I'm out with one of the few friends who smoke. Quite a few northerners amongst my friends list, or people like me who have family up there, some of whom not too far from the Leeds area. Anyone fancy meeting up for lunch or a pint or something? Leeds/Huddersfield/Mirfield are probably easiest for me, given not driving. [Poll #638494]

I'm about to read it again, just because it makes me feel good, but the new film of Pride and Prejudice opens on Friday. I want to go see it. If you want to join me let me know which you prefer: [Poll #569937]

In other news have finally come up with memories for all those who asked here. Mysterious throwing up struck again last night, and combined with coughing kept me awake enough of the night to be off work this morning. Feeling better now for some sleep and some food. Don't want to see Doctor before Christmas but will go when I get back from up north.
